VIP™ Preoperative Planning Software: Perfect Planning and Intraoperative Execution
The Virtual Implant Positioning™ (VIP™) system from Arthrex enables comprehensive and detailed planning of both anatomic and reverse shoulder arthroplasty. Solve problems before operating. Visualize multiple approaches. Simulate range of motion. All with the VIP software.
VIP Preoperative Planning Software
Here are just some of the ways surgeons can plan better and operate more confidently with the VIP preoperative planning system:

What Is the Virtual Implant Positioning (VIP) System?
The VIP preoperative planning system is a web portal that facilitates the transfer of information between surgeons and Arthrex technicians. With purposeful functionality, the portal allows surgeons to adjust protocol-based plans created by experts.
Preoperative Planning Software
Transfer Technology
Planning for VIP Treatment of Shoulder Arthritis
Decide every measurement in advance and prepare for every outcome. Designed by surgeons for surgeons, the VIP system gives you full control of the operation before it even begins.
Glenoid Planning
Determine the size and depth of the glenoid implant down to the millimeter.

Humeral Planning
Decide the ideal head cut height, stem size, cup offset, retroversion, and more, and visualize implant positioning.

Center of Rotation
Plan and visualize the shift of the center of rotation perfectly before operating.

Range of Motion (ROM) Simulation
Simulate range of motion and remove osteophytes where necessary to know exactly what results the patient can expect.

Unique on the Market
No other preoperative imaging system offers what the VIP system from Arthrex offers. Expand the boxes below to learn more about how surgeons and their patients benefit from VIP.
Metal Artifact Reduction (MAR)
Getting a clean CT scan can be challenging if the patient’s shoulder already has metal parts. MAR removes this hardware from the scan for better imaging, and easier planning for one-stage revision with material in situ.
VIP Targeter
When planning pin placement for drilling, other systems require the 3D printing of a single-use adapter for pin setting. This costs time and money in preoperative planning. With the VIP targeter, the VIP system tells you exactly what leg lengths you need for precise drilling in the joint. This single targeter can be reused for multiple patients.
ShARC
With Arthrex, you have access to the research, publications, tips, and pearls published by our in-house experts from the Shoulder Arthroplasty Research Committee (ShARC). Experience and insights are recorded in convenient ShARC Bites. These publications are ideal both for advanced surgeons and for those gaining their first experience in shoulder arthroplasty and advise on topics like deciding implant placement.

Do you still have questions about the Virtual Implant Positioning (VIP) system?
How does the VIP system integrate with clinical workflow and patient engagement?
The VIP system allows for organized case management via a web portal, supports communication between surgeons and Arthrex technicians, and offers patient engagement tools like pre-surgical texting, educational pamphlets, and interactive 3D models to help patients understand their surgery and improve outcomes.
What features does the VIP system offer for preoperative planning and intraoperative guidance?
The system provides tools for 3D visualization, screw trajectory planning, and measurements such as center of rotation and subluxation in multiple planes. It also includes a “flyby” feature for visualizing the surgical plan, which can be used for patient education and OR staff preparation.
How does the VIP system improve the accuracy of implant positioning compared to traditional methods?
The VIP system uses three-dimensional preoperative planning software and reusable, sterilizable patient-specific instrumentation, which has been shown to improve glenoid component positioning accuracy compared to 2D planning and standard instrumentation. For example, it increased the accuracy of glenoid guide pin placement by 4.5° in version, 3.3º in inclination, and 0.4 mm in location versus traditional methods.5
